What is CurrentCare?

CurrentCare is Rhode Island’s Health Information Exchange (HIE). It helps your doctors and other healthcare providers share important information about your health.

Think of it like a secure online filing cabinet for your health records.

It’s safe AND saves time for you and your doctors.

CurrentCare follows all state and federal privacy and security laws to protect patient health information.

What are my choices for sharing health information in CurrentCare?

Sharing your health information with your doctors through CurrentCare is up to you. It’s your choice, and doctors can’t refuse to treat you because of your decision. Doctors who send their records to CurrentCare must tell you that you have choices about sharing. This is often in their privacy notice.

To share your CurrentCare health record with doctors who treat you, you don’t need to do anything.

To “opt out” of sharing your CurrentCare health record with treating doctors, you can complete an Opt-Out Form below.

Per RI law, there are three exceptions to opt-out requests:

      1. Temporary access to health information in the event of an emergency
      2. Public health reporting, such as the reporting of infectious diseases to public health officials
      3. Health plans where information is necessary for care management, quality, and performance measure reporting

An Opt-Out Form only needs to be completed once to opt out of CurrentCare. You don’t need to complete one for each doctor or each medical facility.

NOTE: If you enrolled in CurrentCare in the past as Option #2 “Only Emergency Situations” or Option #3 “Only Some of my Doctors,” you do not need to do anything. You are now opted out of sharing your data in CurrentCare. For more information, please read our Frequently Asked Questions document below.

You can opt back in to CurrentCare at any time. Call CurrentCare Support at 888.858.4815.
